1st RDCL Golf Day a sunny success
The Rugby and District Cricket League staged their inaugural Annual Golf Day last Friday, with one of the Daventry-based Cummins teams taking the honours at the De Vere Venues Staverton Park course
The teams and players from RDCL clubs and sponsors were greeted by a beautiful spring day, with near-perfect conditions making it the ideal setting to get this new League social event underway.
Despite one non-attendance, a healthy and competitive field took to Staverton Park's testing course, which saw some impressive individual and team scores recorded.
The Team Winners for the day were Cummins I, who with a total of 90 points took away the RDCL Golf Challenge Trophy. Cummins II came second with 84 points, with Cemex A and one of the league's sponsors, B I Johnson & Sons Ltd, sharing third spot with 79 points.
On the back of the team success, Luke Pearson from Cummins took the prize for the highest individual score, posting 40 points, whilst at the other end of the scale Lee Golding from Rowland United came back into the clubhouse to take the dubious honours of the lowest score.
Jim Canning from B I Johnson Ltd took the Nearest the Pin award, whilst Steve Hillyard from Rowland United claimed the longest drive. The Chairman's Award - presented by RDCL Chairman Richard Powell, was awarded to Mike Seyes who scored an eagle on the 11th.
Thanks are extended to De Vere Venues Staverton Park for their hosting and hospitality of the event, plus their kind sponsorship of the Nearest the Pin and Longest Drive awards; also to B I Johnson & Sons Ltd for their sponsorship and assistance, and to Dave Goodyear at Wolsey for his kind donation. Finally, thanks go out to everyone that participated and in doing so made the day and event a great success.
